Ingredients
  

  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk whole milk or cream for richness
  • 1 tablespoon sugar optional
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon optional
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 slices bread brioche, challah, or thick white bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter for frying
  • Maple syrup powdered sugar, or fruit (for serving)

Method
 

  1. Whisk eggs in a bowl.
  2. Add milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt some butter.
  4. Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture briefly on both sides.
  5. Cook bread slices for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Repeat with remaining bread, adding more butter if needed.
  7. Serve warm with syrup, powdered sugar, or toppings of choice.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread so it holds up better.
  • Brioche or challah bread makes it extra fluffy.
  • Avoid over-soaking to prevent sogginess.
  • Cook on medium heat for the best texture.
