Ingredients
  

For the Beef Marinade
  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce low-sodium preferred
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
For the Stir Fry
  • 4 cups broccoli florets fresh or frozen
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or peanut oil for high heat
  • 1 small yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger minced (or 1/2 tsp ground ginger)
For the Sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low-sodium
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce optional, for a touch of sweetness
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup water or beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes optional, for heat
For Garnish
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 stalks green onion finely chopped

Method
 

Step 1: Marinate the Beef
  1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain.
  2. Place it in a bowl.
  3. Add soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, and black pepper.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Let it rest for 10–15 minutes.
Step 2: Make the Sauce
  1. In a small bowl, add soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and water or beef broth.
  2. Add red pepper flakes if you like spice.
  3. Stir until smooth.
  4. Set aside.
Step 3: Blanch the Broccoli (Optional)
  1. Boil a small pot of water.
  2. Add broccoli and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Drain and put it in cold water to stop cooking.
  4. Drain again.
Step 4: Cook the Beef
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large pan or wok over high heat.
  2. Add the beef in one layer.
  3. Cook for 2–3 minutes until browned.
  4. Remove and set aside.
Step 5: Stir Fry the Vegetables
  1. Add the remaining oil to the pan.
  2. Add sliced onion. Stir for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Add garlic, ginger, and broccoli.
  4. Cook for 3–4 minutes until broccoli is crisp but tender.
Step 6: Combine Everything
  1. Return the beef to the pan.
  2. Pour in the sauce.
  3. Stir well until everything is coated.
  4. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Step 7: Serve
  1. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.
  2. Serve hot with rice or noodles.
