Ingredients
  

For the apple filling:
  • 6 medium apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are my favorites
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
For the oat topping:
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter cold and cubed

Method
 

  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Prep the apples – Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin pieces. Toss with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch.
  3. Make the oat topping – In a bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Cut in the butter until crumbly.
  4. Assemble – Spread apple mixture in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle oat topping over apples.
  5. Bake – Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40–45 minutes, until topping is golden brown and apples are bubbling.
  6. Serve – Let cool slightly, then serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
