Caramel Apple Slices

When fall rolls around, one of my favorite treats to make is caramel apple slices.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a traditional caramel apple, but sometimes biting into a whole apple covered in caramel is just too much.

That’s why I started making caramel apple slices instead—it’s easier to eat, just as delicious, and perfect for sharing at parties or snacking at home.

Why I Love Caramel Apple Slices

For me, caramel apple slices take all the best parts of a classic fall treat and make them more fun and manageable.

I don’t have to worry about making a sticky mess or struggling to bite into a giant caramel-coated apple.

Each slice gives me the perfect balance of crisp apple, creamy caramel, and whatever toppings I decide to sprinkle on top.

Another reason I adore these is because they’re customizable.

Sometimes I’ll keep them simple with just caramel, and other times I’ll add crushed pretzels, mini chocolate chips, or even a drizzle of white chocolate.

They’re a great way to get creative in the kitchen.

Caramel Apple Slices

For me, caramel apple slices take all the best parts of a classic fall treat and make them more fun and manageable.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples I like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 1 bag 11 oz soft caramel candies
  • 2 tbsp milk or heavy cream
  • Popsicle sticks or skewers optional
  • Toppings of choice: crushed nuts sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, crushed pretzels, or melted chocolate drizzle

Method

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Slice them into thick wedges so they’re sturdy enough to hold caramel and toppings.
  2. If you’d like, insert popsicle sticks or skewers into each slice to make dipping and eating easier.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the caramel candies with milk in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth and creamy.
  4. Dip each apple slice into the melted caramel, letting the excess drip off.
  5. Place the coated slices on a parchment-lined tray.
  6. While the caramel is still sticky, add your favorite toppings—nuts, sprinkles, or a drizzle of melted chocolate.
  7. Let the slices set for a few minutes before serving.

My Tips

  • If you’re making these ahead of time, give the apple slices a quick dip in lemon juice first to prevent browning.

  • I love creating a topping station when I serve these at parties—everyone can decorate their own slice!

Why I Love This Recipe

Caramel apple slices are my go-to fall treat because they’re easy, fun, and so much less messy than a whole caramel apple.

Every bite gives me the perfect balance of crisp apple and sweet caramel.

❓ FAQs About Caramel Apple Slices

1. Can I make caramel apple slices ahead of time?
Yes! You can prepare them a few hours in advance. To keep the apples from browning, dip the slices in lemon juice before coating them in caramel. Store them in the fridge on a parchment-lined tray until serving.

2. What are the best apples to use?
I personally love using Granny Smith apples for their tart flavor, which balances perfectly with sweet caramel. Honeycrisp and Fuji are also great choices if you prefer sweeter apples.

3. How do I keep the caramel from sliding off the apples?
Make sure your apple slices are completely dry before dipping. Any moisture will prevent the caramel from sticking well. Pat them with a paper towel after slicing.

4. What toppings work best on caramel apple slices?
The options are endless! My favorites are crushed pretzels, mini chocolate chips, chopped peanuts, and a drizzle of white chocolate. You can even try crushed cookies or seasonal sprinkles for a fun twist.

5. Do caramel apple slices need to be refrigerated?
Yes, since the apples are sliced, it’s best to refrigerate them if you’re not eating them right away. They’ll stay fresh for up to 24 hours, but I enjoy them most when they’re eaten the same day.
